Another Sleek EV Entry: Longbow

By John R. Quain

In a field littered with the corpses of electric car startups, a new entry is hoping it can deliver the goods where companies like Fisker have failed.

Longbow, the new entry, plans to hand-build the new electric sports cars in the U.K., with final retail pricing starting at about 65,000 pounds sterling (that's roughly $85,000 U.S., give or take a trade war or two). Cars are expected to roll off the line in 2026. The company's founders include EV veterans with CVs that include stints at Tesla, Lucid, and BYD.

Specifically, Longbow's press release claims it is working on two "featherweight" fully electric cars, a speedster and a roadster. The car designs are sleek and sexy, reminiscent of the Karma, and clearly aimed at the tradition of Lotus, the epitome of lightweight British sports car design. (Although one can't help also think of those wonderful Morgan roadsters.) The speedster is a rear-wheel design with a claimed 275-mile range and a 0 to 62 mph time of just 3.5 seconds. The Longbow roadster will deliver similar performance, a 280-mile range and 0 to 62 in 3.6 seconds.

And, yes, of course, following current business "strategy," reservations are now open for those willing to bet on the new models.
